An Evening with Carrie Hoza In-Person
Join us in the library for a slideshow lecture with Carrie Hoza, a former U.S. Army captain deployed to the Sunni Triangle in Iraq from 2004-2005. Throughout her deployment, Captain Hoza wrote emails home to family and friends in Winnetka in an effort to stay connected and upbeat. Her emails were shared widely and recently compiled into a book, Love, Mother Goose: A U.S. Army Captain’s Stories of Surviving the Sunni Triangle, that tells her platoon’s story of survival, courage, and resilience.
As a female leader of a platoon of 35 men, Captain Hoza drove 40-ton truckloads of JP8 jet fuel in unpredictable conditions on dangerous roads. Her platoon ran mission after mission; tragedy sometimes struck and soldiers were injured or killed. She received the Bronze Star Medal for leadership and service.
Register if you'd like a reminder prior to the event. Copies of her book will be available for purchase and signing. Presented in partnership with the Glencoe Council for Inclusion and Community.
