Stories from the Daggitt Cemetery In-Person

They say dead men tell no tales. But cemeteries do tell lots of stories: who lived in the area, what caused those people to die (epidemic? accident?), how long people lived, what religious beliefs they had, and more. Glencoe and Highland Park's Daggitt Cemetery, located along Lake-Cook Rd. just east of the Braeside train station, has many stories to tell. A "pioneer" and "community" cemetery -- as distinguished from a religiously endowed cemetery or a church courtyard -- it served the two newly formed communities and is the resting place of their founding fathers. Members of the Glencoe Historical Society will discuss the cemetery’s graves and symbols, and share stories about the people buried there.
