Patterns of Mexico: Talavera, Papel Picado, and Huichol Votive Art

Patterns of Mexico: Talavera, Papel Picado, and Huichol Votive Art In-Person

Gilberto Sandoval Rubalcava, lead art educator at the National Museum of Mexican Art in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago, will explore some of Mexico’s most iconic visual identities. He will discuss the intricate craftsmanship of Talavera pottery, the delicate beauty of papel picado, and the spiritual symbolism of Huichol yarn paintings. Together, these art forms reveal how tradition, community, and creativity intertwine to preserve Mexico’s rich heritage while continuing to inspire contemporary expression. This program is part of the library’s Explore: Mexico series.
